Welcome to the Wellington Swim Team and the rewarding world of competitive swimming. We are committed to making all swimmers feel that they are a valuable part of the WELLINGTON SWIM TEAM. We can assure you that you will have a year filled with challenge, excitement, fun and camaraderie. This handbook is your reference for any questions you may have about the team, your child’s program or competitive swimming. You will find that your child’s coach is approachable and both willing and able to answer your questions. It is only natural to have questions as you become involved in the sport and the coaches have a responsibility to help you get settled into the swim team. Becoming involved with the Wellington Swimming means taking a step towards a lifestyle that provides significant health and social benefits. Being part of a competitive swim club offers young men and women equal opportunity to grow in an atmosphere that fosters physical challenge, team spirit and mental focus. The club has programs in place to assist swimmers at all levels to attain their personal goals. Being aware of the long term development involved in swimming, we are dedicated to keeping the sport fun, to having athletes continue to swim successfully at the college level, and to developing a life-long love of the sport of swimming. Once again, welcome to the Wellington Swim Team and may your family’s involvement with the team be long and happy.

10 Tips to help you improve in 2008
- Trust your coach.
- Be on time to practice. (This means in the water on time.)
- Practice meet times. (Not just on the last one in the set.)
- Talk to your coach. (Before or after practice.)
- Do not take the day before the meet off to rest. (The coaches plan the season, let them rest you.)
- Practices are planned around a seasonal cycle. (You miss practice, you miss what we are working on that day.)
- Be consistent.
- Cheer your teammates on at practice and meets. (Practice isn’t easy and teammates need to encourage one another not bring each other down.)
- Stay positive. (Even when everything hurts, coaches have you right where they need you at this point in time. Hopefully if you’ve put in the work you will be ready for the big meet.)
- Have fun! (Fulfilling your goals is fun, keep your goals in mind.)
