Latest Twenty-six team members from ages seven to forty-seven swam in the open water events. Open water events included the 800 meter, one mile and two mile swims. Head Coach Richard Whalen was extremely impressed with the performances of the open water swimmers. He stated that the team not only conquered the waves, salt water, and marine life, but they also dominated the swimmers from other teams as well. First, second and third place individual trophies were awarded to Wellington swimmers in all age groups. The team also received fourth place medals as well. To celebrate the team’s success, a beach bar-b-q was held Saturday night. Swimmers enjoyed the beauty of the beach and spending time with each other outside of the water. “The bar-b-q was a fun time for both the swimmers and their families,” Whalen said.
The following day, the team attended the Key West Invitational pool meet. Again, the team dominated the competition. Two sets of siblings had outstanding results. Both Monica and Grace Cozad and Tanner and Peyton Fuller earned first place awards in every event they swam. Overall, Wellington swimmers received thirty-five first place medals, twenty-three second place medals and twelve third place medals. “To see our team whole heartedly enjoy the sport and bring home a large number of trophies and medals is quite an accomplishment and success,” Whalen stated.Stated. WELLINGTON SWIMMERS DROPS TIME AND SWIMS FAST AS THE JUPITER ABC LONG COURSE MEET SIGNALS THE BEGINNING OF SUMMER SEASON Thirty-three swimmers, ages 6 to 15, of The Wellington Swim Team attended the Jupiter County ABC Long Course meet last weekend. Head Coach Rich Whalen was extremely pleased with the team’s outstanding performance. “The long course season is in full gear now. At this meet, the swimmers were focused on swimming fast and improving their own personal best times. And that’s just what happened,” said Coach Whalen.
Swimmers in the 13 to 15 age group included Jonathan Smith, Matthew Romanelli, Kamil Baska, Natalia Tyson, Emily Deem and Marie Gesellschap. Kamil Baska brought home first place awards in the 100 freestyle and 100 fly. Matthew Romanelli dropped over 25 seconds in the 200 breast and 11 seconds in the 100 freestyle. He also won third place in the 100 fly with a time of 1:37.88. Overall, this age group had a very impressive meet. Cody Cline, Tanner Fuller, Cash Hollister, Timothy Maris, Kyle Schaefer and Christopher Smith represented the boy’s 11-12 age group. Swimmers in the girl’s 11-12 age group included Monica Cozad, Camila Gonzalez, Fabiana Ingram, Gianna Ramos and Dominique Tyson. This age group had over 37 personal best times. Tanner Fuller won first place in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. Camila Gonzalez placed second in the 100 fly while Fabiana Ingram placed second in the 200 freestyle, 50 fly and 1500 freestyle. Monica Cozad dropped over 25 seconds in the 100 breast and over 14 seconds in the 100 free. Sydney Mutschler dropped over 7 seconds in the 100 freestyle and Gianna Ramos dropped over 31 seconds in the 400 freestyle. “This age group had a great meet. Their focus and commitment at practice definitely paid off which was seen in their meet results.” Whalen said.
The 9-10 age group was equally strong and impressive. Swimmers in this age group included Grace Cozad, Tiffany Ocampo, Lacy Phillips, Summer Ryder, Ashlynn Smith, Hannah Trieschmann, Robert Guerrero, Jared Ingram, and Carson Walker. Grace Cozad dropped over 12 seconds to win second place in the 200 free. She dropped over 20 seconds to swim the 100 free in 1:18.37 seconds. She also earned third place in the 100 fly with a time of 139.32. Lacy Phillips brought home second place awards in the 50 back, 100 back and 50 fly. She swam the 1500 free with a time of 22:27 and won third place for this event. Ashlynn Smith was a strong swimmer as well. She dropped over 25 seconds in the 200 freestyle, 14 seconds in the 100 fly and 10 seconds in the 100 freestyle. Jared Ingram won the 50 freestyle in 32.13 seconds. Jared also won the 100 free and 50 Fly. In the 50 fly he recorded the second fastest time in team history for 10 and under Wellington boys 35.34 just .12 seconds of Tanner Fuller’s record that he set last month. Summer Ryder and Roberto Guerrero also had personal best times in all events. Head Coach Whalen was extremely proud of this group as well. He stated that the swimmers in the 9-10 age group deserve a careful watch as they continue to improve their times throughout the swim year.
Last but not lease is the enthusiastic 8 and under age group. The 8 and under swimmers included Ayden Colby, Ashley Cozad, Dominique Olivo, Mary Reagan Phillips, and Sean Ramos. Sean Ramos won third place in the 400 freestyle with a time of 6:54.69. He also dropped over 8 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Dominique Olivo swam the 100 fly in 1:45.22 seconds while dropping over 3 seconds in this event. Ayden Colby, Ashley Cozad and Mary Reagan Phillips dropped time in their events as well. Mary Reagan Phillips swam the 50 breast in 1:04.24 seconds while Ashley Cozad swam the 50 freestyle with a time of 45.57. Six year old Ayden Colby was the youngest swimmer representing the team at this meet. He swam the 100 breast in 2:17.50 seconds. Head Coach Whalen was proud of all his swimmers. He stated, “From the oldest to the youngest, this was an excellent meet for our team.”
